Abstract

This article discusses the application of Hybrid Engineering innovation as a building with nature concept carried out by PT Petrokimia Gresik in the Mengare Discovery Program in overcoming the impact of severe abrasion that occurred in 2009. The research method was descriptive qualitative with a constructivist approach. Data collection techniques use interviews and direct observation in the field. 15 Ha of pond land was washed away by abrasion so that it could no longer be used. Utilizing the potential of local wisdom of bamboo plants as a simple innovation, HE applies a permeable structure as a device to reduce the force of waves while trapping sediment carried by seawater and/or river channels on land. Within a few months, the sedimentation that forms behind the permeable structure is expected to provide ideal conditions for natural regeneration. Mangrove planting was carried out in the protected zone of the Hybrid Engineering structure with 5,000 trees. The existence of the HE structure will make water conditions more conducive for the natural growth of mangrove saplings, but to speed up succession, mangrove planting is carried out behind the HE structure.
