Sustainable Used Clothes Waste Management Innovation at PPS PGOT Mardi Utomo Semarang

The fashion industry is a significant contributor to accelerated climate change on a global scale. The demand for rapidly changing fashion trends, coupled with mass production and consumerism, has led to a significant environmental impact. This phenomenon gives rise to a novel challenge, namely the production of clothing waste that endangers the environment. This research aims to examine the sustainable innovation implemented at PPS PGOT Mardi Utomo Semarang in response to the accumulation of used clothing waste that has not been managed properly. This research employs the theory of liberal environmentalism and the concept of civil society to elucidate the interrelationship between environmental challenges, global norms within the context of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the role of civil society, exemplified by the Gombal Project, in contributing to the realization of SDGs at PPS Mardi Utomo Semarang. This research employs a qualitative methodology, drawing upon both primary and secondary data sources. The findings indicate that the Gombal Project's initiative aligns with the SDGs and the development of SOPs for clothing waste management, offering a replicable framework for implementing similar approaches in other contexts facing similar challenges.
